The Via Maestra: an approach from the sea

The last few weeks have seen a succession of news stories about a Mediterranean in need of solidarity. The earthquake in Morocco, the massacre in Derna following Hurricane Daniel in Libya, the arrival of thousands of people from Tunisia fleeing authoritarianism and pogroms. Faced with all this, a Europe incapable of opening up and opening up the borders of solidarity is struggling in the blind alley of a propaganda that has as its horizon the electoral campaign for the European elections and those of the national parliaments.

Within this Europe, one country, Italy, is hostage to the government's "anti-catastrophist" rhetoric, which is often confronted with very few courageous alternatives and which is concerned with confirming the absurd axioms of racist discourse, such as "there is no place for everyone".

Faced with this scenario, MEDITERRANEA SAVING HUMANS joins the demonstration on the 7th of October called "THE MAESTRA WAY, together for the Constitution", which puts rights and wages, health and education at the centre of its platform, claiming how necessary it is to reclaim them for all, not as a terrain of exchange and war between the poor, but as a terrain of struggle and liberation.

We agree that there can be no change without democracy, without climate and environmental justice, without peace. So it can only be a global horizon, that of our participation in the demonstration, so that we are able to see, feel and fight together with those who rebel against injustice and those who demand to be saved, those who organise and those who flee, across the sea and everywhere.
