Mediterranea Saving Humans joins the European Citizens Initiative (ECI) called 'Art.4 Stop torture and inhuman treatment at Europe's borders'.

Many European civil society organisations have joined together in the association 'Stop Border Violence' to bring the initiative before the European Commission.

With this ECI we ask the European Institutions to adopt adequate regulatory instruments in order to effectively apply what is stated in Art. 4 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, which states that "No one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment".

We therefore call for the outlawing of the use of all forms of violence in the management of migration flows and in the control of EU borders, as well as within third countries (e.g. Libya and Turkey) with which the European institutions or member states have concluded agreements, with sanctions in case of non-compliance with the established obligations.

There will be one year to collect one million signatures in all EU member states, with a minimum quota to be reached in at least seven countries.
