Letter to the Greek Ambassador regarding threats against Iasonas Apostolopoulos

Iasonas Apostolopoulos is our activist and rescue coordinator aboard the Mare Jonio, currently on Mission 10 in the central Mediterranean.

For months, Iasonas has been threatened and targeted by Greek neo-Nazi groups for his work rescuing people at sea and denouncing human rights violations and refusals by the Greek authorities against migrants and asylum seekers in the Aegean.

These repeated attacks against him culminated a few days ago. In an attempt to intimidate him and threaten his and his family's safety, his personal details were published online and immediately taken up by accounts linked to the neo-fascist right in Greece.

Following this umpteenth and dangerous attack on Iasonas, we have written to the Greek Ambassador in Rome asking him to intervene with the Greek government to ensure the protection and safety of Iasonas and his family. We also asked him to take all necessary measures to stop the threatening and intimidating activities of far-right neo-Nazi organisations.
