Save a life, save the world
let's rescue humanity together,
support our missions in the Mediterranean
Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old American, was killed this afternoon by an Israeli army bullet that hit her in the head in the village of Beita, south of Nablus, where she was taking part in a peaceful demonstration against the Israeli occupation. Severely injured, she was taken to the nearby hospital in Rafidia, where she died shortly afterwards. She was accompanied by an 18-year-old Palestinian boy who was seriously injured by shrapnel in his thigh.
We send our condolences to Aysenur's family and express our solidarity with the ISM comrades in a death that fills our hearts with sorrow.
Aysenur was in Palestine with the International Solidarity Movement to carry out non-violent actions in support of the Palestinian people. This is the same activity that Mediterranea Saving Humans activists have been carrying out in the Masafer Yatta area for the past three months, and which is fundamental to supporting the resistance of the Palestinian people: this presence means not only serving the Palestinian resistance with one's own body and passport, but also maintaining an international observatory that denounces the violence and human rights violations carried out by the occupation forces against the Palestinian people to the public opinion of the countries that condone and are complicit in the crimes of the Israeli government, army and settlers.
We are aware that the outcry over Aysenur's death will be greater than that for the hundreds of Palestinians killed in recent weeks in the West Bank and the more than 40,000 dead in Gaza, whose names are too often not even mentioned in the Western media. This double standard is a manifestation of the oppression of the Palestinian people, and that is why we want to remember the importance of Aysenur's choice: to fight against the system that produces these injustices.
With his memory in our hearts, we believe that the international commitment to be present in the Palestinian territories, in the villages, alongside the civilian population, to be an instrument of resistance for the Palestinian people and to denounce the crimes of the Israeli authorities to the world, is fundamental.
