UNITED4MED REQUESTS IMMEDIATE SOLUTION FOR SPANISH FISHING VESSEL. THE SITUATION ABOARD IS VERY CRITICAL. EVACUATION IS REQUIRED FOR A SERIOUS CASE: “SPAIN, MALTA AND ITALY HAVE TO FIND AN AGREEMENT”
The condition of the people on board the fishing vessel Nostra Madre di Loreto is critical. The ships of Mediterranea and Open Arms, alongside the vessel (?) for several hours now, are asking Malta for an urgent evacuation of a survivor, that is in a state of unconsciousness at the moment.
The organizations of United4Med, Mediterranea, Open Arms and Sea Watch ask to European governments to take responsibility for what is happening at the moment and to find a common solution to ensure that these people can safely land in a safe harbor and receive the assistance necessary for their conditions.
The challenging weather conditions of these days are likely to worsen quickly, which would also endanger the stability of the boat subjecting the crew and the survivors to further risk.
Aboard the vessel are, besides the crew that has been living this dramatic condition, 12 people in precarious health conditions. Including two minors, who survived a shipwreck and who show evident signs of torture suffered in the detention camps in Libya.
We cannot allow the inability of European governments to find a solution on them. We strongly demand that Spain, Malta and Italy agree to find a safe harbour in the shortest possible time.
